On Thursday, Meghan Markle released the first trailer for her new Netflix lifestyle show.
A series titled With love, From MeganThe duchess and her celebrity friends cook meals, arrange flowers and offer a variety of tips and tricks for aspiring hosts.
In other words, it is Meghan’s way of confirming her intention to become the Martha Stewart of her generation.
Meghan’s new show receives criticism
Unfortunately, Martha’s success may be a product of a bygone era.
Dinner parties are mostly a thing of the past these days, and people who need cooking tips are probably looking for them on TikTok.
Perhaps that’s why Meghan’s latest Netflix project is getting such a cold reception.
As soon as the trailer was released on YouTube, haters took to the comments section to accuse the Duchess of Sussex of being ‘tone deaf’ and ‘out of touch’.
And now Meghan has attracted the unwanted attention of a very famous commentator: journalist and self-described political nepobaby, Meghan McCain.
Megan vs. Megan
“I was originally a supporter of Meghan Markle and thought she was cool, stylish and refreshing. “Like the rest of the world, my opinion changed when she disrespected the royal family,” McCain wrote on X (formerly Twitter) today.
“Now she wants to be American again, not an English aristocrat, and she seems to have forgotten that Americans want something real and raw, uncensored. All of these things in the trailer are highly curated, crafted, and untouchable.”
In it, McCain referenced recent terrorist violence in the United States and criticized Meghan for announcing her flashy new project at an inopportune time.
“There have been two terrorist attacks in two days, a major war is raging, and Americans can’t pay for their groceries. We are a country now in anger, uncertainty and intensity,” she wrote.
“This concept is not good. I would have told her to do a show to help bring fresh food to food deserts in low-income areas. Instead of your ego, do what you can to help people,” she continued.
“This is why the world doesn’t like you. Now I am completely and utterly deaf.”
McCain’s comments echo many of the reactions to the show across YouTube and social media.
(In claiming that “the world” doesn’t like Meghan, McCain went a little further than most anonymous trolls.)
Obviously, this judgment is premature, as the eight-part series won’t premiere until January 15th.
a lot is happening
But Meghan’s team may be feeling a little nervous right now, as the stakes on this project couldn’t be higher.
Meghan and Prince Harry signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2020, but so far the pair are yet to have a major hit.
The pair’s latest project, a docuseries about the world of professional polo, received poor reviews and very low viewership ratings.
Insiders say Meghan and Harry are hoping to bounce back in the new year after a disappointing 2024.
So we better hope Netflix subscribers don’t reach the same conclusion that Meghan McCain reached. Otherwise, they will have yet another setback to overcome.
