The Nintendo Switch reveal figures were viewed more than 17 million times on US YouTube channels in less than 48 hours, a record ahead of the PlayStation 5 reveal in 2020.
By comparison, the official PlayStation 5 reveal trailer received approximately 13.3 million views in the two days following its release in June 2020. The original Switch’s first teaser garnered 19.5 million views over the same two days and was later removed from the listings.
The PS5 reveal trailer has been viewed a total of 44 million times and received 1.6 million likes since it was released nearly five years ago.
In less than 48 hours, the reveal of the Switch 2 has been liked nearly 1 million times, so it’s likely that it will surpass the PS5’s all-time numbers in the near future. On Saturday, the Switch 2 reveal was the most popular thing on YouTube.
The numbers for X (formerly Twitter) are even more significant. The Switch 2 video was viewed over 40 million times on Nintendo of America’s account, and over 51 million times on its Japanese account.
Nintendo is preparing to sell 20 million Switch 2 units when it launches, according to a Bloomberg report published this week, quoting analyst Robin Zhu.
In a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal video posted on Thursday, the platform holder confirmed that the console will launch this year and that the full reveal is planned for April 2.
As expected, the Switch 2 sports a similar form factor to the original Switch, with detachable connections (this time magnetic) and a larger screen. Nintendo also showed off what appears to be a new Mario Kart game in the trailer.
Commenting on this reveal, Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Japanese gaming industry consulting firm Kantan Games, told VGC that shareholders seem pleased that the previous Switch 2 leaks are true and that Nintendo is playing it safe with the new console’s design.
