To play Count Orlok, artificial genitals were added to his body. nosferatu, But this was a new experience. It was an experience that created memorable moments not only for Skarsgård’s character on screen, but also for his fellow actors. Nicholas Hoult‘s Thomas Hutter and the film’s creative team.
“There was a scene with (Nick’s character) Thomas where Orlock was sucking blood and his penis kept rubbing against his leg and he didn’t know how to react to him.” Tracy Lauder, nosferatu‘s chief makeup designer said: our week In an exclusive interview.
The head of the movie hair team said, “I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment.” Susan Stokes-Montonadded, and Loader responded, “No, it will last forever!”

As he finds his way into the basement, he attempts to stake the sleeping Orlok, but instead wakes him up. While Thomas runs for his life, Orlok rises from his sarcophagus and reveals himself naked.
Regarding why an artificial penis was needed for filming in the first place, the head of the prosthetic makeup effect designer said, david white — Prop creator — Provided us A little insight into the field.
“(Bill) knew it was coming, and as soon as he saw it in the frame, he thought, ‘Oh, this brings up the question.’ Because up to that point no one had said a word,” White said. “It was a creation beyond Bill’s own ego. We had to figure out a way to make his entire body work for the scene where he wakes up in the sarcophagus. So there was no way.”
Holt himself spoke candidly about an awkward moment on set. Elle In a recent interview, the director said he felt the prop pushing up his leg. Robert Eggers I sent him a surprise gift.
“I framed it and sent it to my house as a wrap gift,” Holt said. He noted that he ended up having to take the prosthetics to a framing store after the gift was damaged.
“When I went back to get it, I think (the store owner) looked at his watch and saw how weird it was that I was potentially framing this vampire penis,” Hoult explained. “And he said, ‘Is this some kind of collector’s piece?’ And I thought, ‘Well, you could say that.’”

According to the team, Skarsgård was also involved in the creative process and helped create Orlok’s mustache. Thanks to Skarsgård’s input, the facial hair was initially expected to be much longer and a different color than what the final product turned out to be.
“There were several different mustache sizes to choose from,” White recalled. “I suggested a variety of things. It was a little big at first, but believe it or not, it got bigger then smaller than it is now, and if you look closely, you can see that the middle part is actually thinner, so it was made this way on purpose. “The teeth and everything underneath are a little bit more.”
He continued: “I added a little silver to the ends. I thought it was really lovely and would give him some extra character and hint at aging, but not take him too far. And Bill knew these color changes. So he agreed and wanted to do it.”
White added that on set, Skarsgård tended to stay in character and was “quiet and in the shadows, like Orlok.” But seeing the actors in suits was a lot more comical behind the scenes than people might think.
“The first time he went on set, he was half-dressed and wearing jogging pants underneath,” Loader recalled with a laugh.
