Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) Studio’s upcoming event, RGG Summit, has been confirmed for September 20th. The stream will take place simultaneously on Sega’s Twitch channel and Sega’s YouTube channel at 3 a.m. PST, 6 a.m. ET, and 12 p.m. CET. It may be a tough time for fans in the Americas, but with a plethora of Yakuza/Like a Dragon games on the horizon, this Summit is likely to be an event not to be missed.
The latest mainline game in the series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, was released earlier this year, making a Yakuza/Like a Dragon 9 announcement highly unlikely. On average, a new mainline Yakuza/Like a Dragon game is released every four years, so it’s likely that a ninth game is already in development, but it’s too early to announce any details at this point. Spin-offs are fair game, though. A third game in the Judgment sub-series could be in the cards, especially since the last game in the series, Lost Judgment, was released in 2021.
Another possibility could be Yakuza Kiwami 3, a remake of the third game in the main series. Originally released in Japan in 2009, Yakuza 3 has a beloved story, setting, and characters, but the combat, obligatory chase sequences, and series staple minigames like hostess clubs, darts, and billiards could use a much-needed update. In addition to the Summit confirmation, recent announcements from RGG suggest that the series will Yakuza Kiwami Released for the First Time on Nintendo SwitchSince it’s a remake of the first game, there’s a chance we’ll hear more about Kiwami.
There’s also a chance that a new Gaiden game could be announced. The series has a number of beloved characters that could be the focus of a new Gaiden title, much like Kiryu was in the original Gaiden. In addition to game news, information about the upcoming Amazon Prime show could be sprinkled in during the summit. Whatever is announced will likely be detailed at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs from September 26 to September 29, right after the RGG stream.
