JD Vance You’ll learn what it’s like to be a target of Trump supporters.
Chaos in the MAGA world ensued after the Vice President-elect spoke. Fox News SundaYour host Shannon Bream is not like that. every The insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, will receive a pardon from Donald Trump.
“It’s very simple,” Vance insisted on the show. “If you peacefully protested on January 6th and (Attorney General) Merrick Garland treated you like a gang member, you should be forgiven. If you committed violence that day, you certainly should not be excused, and there are some gray areas, but we are committed to equal enforcement of the law. And there are many people who were unfairly prosecuted as a result of the January 6 incident, and I think this needs to be corrected.”

Don’t forget: As my colleague Mark Follman has documented, January 6, 2021 was actually a heavily armed riot that left 140 police officers injured and four participants and five officers dead. Who was at the Capitol. According to the Ministry of Justice, more than 1,200 people were indicted for their actions that day. The DOJ said this includes more than 120 people accused of using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to officers and 11 people accused of assaulting journalists or destroying equipment.
On his first day in office, President Trump repeatedly promised to release more than 460 imprisoned participants, calling them “hostages” and “political prisoners.” As recently as last week, at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, he promised to issue a “major pardon” when asked if he would pardon people accused of violent crimes.
But Vance’s recent comments call that promise into question. Therefore, after his remarks were broadcast fox news sundaySome rebels melted away immediately.
The “The J6 hostage family was trampled by mixed people. A message recently came out from the White House regarding the J6 pardon process. “We are so confused!!”
“We have waited four years for this moment. Now it looks like your administration will leave some of our brothers behind. “We will leave them rotting in camps for the next 10 to 20 years,” he continued, falsely claiming that “all” rebels were “organized and trapped by the FBI,” and falsely claiming that all had protested peacefully. “Mr. Vice President @JDVance, there is only one solution: bring all J6 prisoners home!! Not a single one left – full pardon and prison cleaning on day one!!”
In another post from X, a person identifies himself as “January 6 survivor” Philip Anderson. The man — who is facing felony and misdemeanor charges for his actions that day — called Vance’s comments hypocritical and wrote: “And the “trap” is betrayal. All J6 defendants must be rescued. JD Vance is wrong and I hope Trump saves his supporters.”
Vance received so much criticism that he pleaded with X. Two conservative commentators known as the Hodge Twins told their 3.2 million followers: “You might want to reconsider what you just said,” the VP-elect said, adding that Vance told his followers, “I donated to the J6 political prisoner fund and got roasted for it during the Senate race.” “I’ve been defending these people for years,” he said, repeating a debunked conspiracy theory that there were “federal operatives in the crowd,” adding, “Do they get a pardon? I don’t think so.”
“It is not some kind of regression for the President to say he will review each case and for me to say the same,” Vance wrote. “I assure you, we are taking care of people who are wrongfully imprisoned. Yes, that includes the people who got angry, and it includes the people who got a garbage trial.”
President Trump has not yet appeared to comment publicly on the infighting, and his spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. mother jones Sunday afternoon. But there’s a lot about all of this that feels microcosmic to our broader politics, including Vance’s desperation to get the MAGA seal of approval and Trump turning his back on (arguably) his most ardent supporters. If Vance’s comments are accurate and Trump ends up jailing some of the insurrectionists, expect more chaos on the right.
