The Madras High Court on Thursday (September 12, 2024) recorded a submission by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) department, stating that both Tamil and Sanskrit hymns and verses will be recited at the consecration ceremony of the Siddhiswara Swamy temple at Kanjamalai in Salem district on Sunday (September 15, 2024).
A First Division Bench headed by Chief Justice D. Krishnakumar and Justice PB Balaji, after recording the statement of Special Government Counsel (HR&CE) NRR Arun Natarajan, disposed of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking relief in Tamil languages Tirumaraigal and Saiva Manthiram.
Appearing for the Salem public interest litigation petitioner S. Sathiyabama, her counsel Balan Haridas complained that despite Tamil being an ancient language and having several hymns and verses in praise of Lord Shiva, only Sanskrit hymns and verses are recited during temple consecration ceremonies in Tamil Nadu.
He insisted that Tamil hymns should be recited at the consecration ceremony of the Sidheswara Swamy temple scheduled to be held on Sunday. Responding to the petition, Natarajan assured the bench that both Sanskrit and Tamil hymns would be recited at Kumbabhishekam.
