Monday night’s “The Daily Show” spent nearly 10 minutes trolling Elon Musk, one of Donald Trump’s biggest supporters.
“He was so rich that he bought Twitter just to run it into the ground for his own personal enjoyment,” said correspondent Michael Costa. “And now he’s thinking, ‘What if I do the same in America?’”
Musk has been running a daily $1 million giveaway as part of his efforts to represent Trump.
“Wow, Elon gave a million dollars to his fans.” Kosta said. “Now they can afford the best anime girlfriend pillow money can buy.”
Kosta looked at how Musk used his platform at X to amplify false and misleading information in tweets that have collectively received more than 3 billion views and counting.
Costa called it a “huge amount of propaganda” that is forced to appear in the feeds of Musk’s followers as well as users who don’t follow him.
Fellow “Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng joined the segment and revealed what the real reason for Musk’s prank was.
“Don’t think too much about it, Michael: all Elon’s trying to do is make friends.” Chieng said, dismissing Musk as a “loser with no friends.”
Chieng explained how all of Musk’s previous attempts to make friends had failed.
“He bought Twitter to make friends, but what happened? “We all left Twitter,” he said. “He built a self-driving car so that the car could be his friend, but what happened? The car exploded on its own.”
Kosta tried to take the next step, but Chieng wasn’t done.
“This guy is a fucking loser, Costa. His group chat is a burner phone that he bought so he wouldn’t be alone in the group chat. The only reason he wants to go to Mars is to be the first human to meet aliens. Because I know that if an alien meets another human, they’re going to say, ‘Oh wait, this sucks.’”
Chieng presented some evidence that Musk has no friends: the Cybertruck.
“A true friend would have said this to him: ‘Hey bro, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. ‘I need to punch you in the dick,’” he said.
