The Buffalo Bills offensive lineman made the case for who should win MVP as a gift to the star quarterback.
The O-line gave Josh Allen a monogram diamond necklace for Christmas. It has a jersey look and features Allen’s number (17) and the “MVP” monogram on the front. The back is engraved with the names of Buffalo’s offensive linemen.
“It really breaks my heart,” Allen said in a video of him receiving the gift.
It’s usually the QB who lavishes expensive gifts on his linemen. It’s unclear whether Allen has given gifts to offensive linemen this year, but he has in the past. In 2022, Allen provided them with a custom scooter. In 2020, Allen provided them with a set of Callaway golf clubs and lessons at a local golf club. Last year, Allen’s Bills teammates gave him an ATV.

The Bills quarterback was considered a strong candidate to win his first MVP award. But after Allen received the gift Wednesday, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson appeared to close the gap in the MVP race. Jackson completed 10 of 15 passes for 168 yards, 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the Ravens’ dominant 31-2 win over the Houston Texans on Christmas Day. .
Even after Jackson’s impressive performance, Allen is leading the MVP race in betting markets. However, the competition is getting tighter as Allen has -240 odds to win the award and Jackson has +180 odds to repeat as MVP.
Statistically, Jackson was the best quarterback this season. He ranks third in the league in passing yards (3,955), tied for first in passing touchdowns (39), first in yards per attempt (8.9) and first in passer rating (121.6) with 852 rushing yards and four rushing touches. A down was recorded.
But some of the narrative surrounding MVP seems to favor Allen. The Buffalo offense didn’t miss a beat after the team traded Stefon Diggs in the offseason. Allen has 3,549 yards, 26 touchdowns, six interceptions and a passer rating of 101.2. The only statistic where Allen surpasses Jackson is rushing touchdowns, 11 to 4. Allen has beaten two of the NFL’s top teams in recent weeks, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions. In those two games, Allen threw for 624 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while recording 123 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
It’s Allen’s turn to make one final case for MVP honors when the Bills host the New York Jets on Sunday. A win in that game would lock up the Bills’ No. 2 seed in the AFC and leave them with nothing to play for in Week 18.
Of course, Allen’s offensive linemen have already made it clear who they think should win MVP.
