The iPhone has become the default camera for many people around the world, not only because of its quality, but also because of the great apps available on the App Store. This year, we’ve compiled a list of the best apps for shooting and editing video on your iPhone.
FiLMiC Pro
FiLMiC Pro is probably the best app for users who are serious about shooting video with their iPhone. The app comes with a variety of manual controls that let you adjust focus, exposure, ISO, frame rate, zoom, and more.
You also have the option to quickly switch between color profiles, HDR modes, ProRes codec, and resolutions. Pro users have access to gamma curve control, image stabilization, video presets, audio synchronization, and downsampling.
FiLMiC Pro is available for $14.99 on the App Store. Some additional features can be unlocked through in-app purchases.
wicked
Kino, created by the developers of Halide, is more than just an app for recording video with manual controls on your iPhone. This allows users to add cinematic effects to their videos using a set of LUTs included with the app. The interface is easy to use, but at the same time provides professional shooting tools.
The app offers a “starter” mode where the settings are automatically selected, but you can change everything if you want. Kino was recently updated with camera control support and 4K 120fps video capture for iPhone 16 and 16 Pro owners.
Kino is available as a one-time purchase with no subscription for $19.99 on the App Store. It works on any iPhone running iOS 17 or later, but some features require an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro.
final cut camera
Don’t want to spend money on an app to unlock manual controls for shooting? Try Final Cut Camera, a free app that Apple released last year.
Final Cut Camera is an app from Apple that allows creators to “wirelessly connect and remotely control each video angle with powerful professional controls.” The app was initially offered as a supplementary tool for controlling your iPhone camera from your iPad, but it also works as a standalone app on your iPhone.
The app allows users to monitor zebras and measure audio while adjusting white balance, manual focus, and more. It also provides ISO and shutter speed controls, as well as making it easy to switch between resolutions and video formats.
The app is available for free on the App Store and requires an iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later (some features require a newer iPhone).
black magic camera
Blackmagic Camera, from the company that developed the popular video editor DaVinci Resolve, is another great alternative that allows you to get professional photography tools for free.
The Blackmagic Camera app for iOS is inspired by Blackmagic’s own camera interface. It offers a variety of manual controls for shutter speed, ISO, white balance, tint, and more. Users can also easily switch between different lenses, frames per second options, stabilization levels, and focus adjustments. The recent update adds more features and camera control support for iPhone 16 models.
Blackmagic Camera is available as a free download from the App Store. Requires an iPhone XR or later running iOS 17 or later. Some features (such as log color profiles) are only available on certain iPhone models due to hardware limitations.
double take
DoubleTake is an app created by the same developers who developed FiLMiC Pro, but the app focuses on allowing users to shoot video using two iPhone cameras simultaneously. The app was highlighted by Apple at the 2019 iPhone 11 Pro launch event.
You can choose two different lenses to record video simultaneously, which is perfect for multicam projects. Users can also combine the front camera with one of the rear cameras or use two different rear lenses. There’s also an option to easily create a single video using multiple lenses with a split-screen effect.
In addition to multicam functionality, users can adjust and select frame rate, resolution, focus, and exposure.
DoubleTake costs $3.99 and is available on the App Store with no in-app purchases. It’s worth noting that you’ll need an iPhone 11 or later to use the multicam feature.
carousel camera
Some people are used to recording videos vertically because of social networks, but it doesn’t look good on TV or computers. But what if you could record a single video that goes in both directions?
The rotating camera records video using a square format, which allows for some cool tricks when viewed on your phone. This will allow you to rotate your iPhone vertically or horizontally and you won’t see any black bars.
And if you want to export the video, the app gives you the option to save the video in 16:9, 9:16, and other aspect ratios.
Carousel Camera is available for free on the App Store, but some features require a $0.99 in-app purchase.
Lumafusion
LumaFusion is a well-known video editor for iOS that has become a staple for professional editors working on iPad. However, the app also offers an iPhone version with the same powerful features.
LumaFusion allows editors to work with multiple video, audio, image, or title tracks. There are advanced options for adjusting colors, effects, cropping, speed, and more. It’s almost like having a portable version of a desktop video editor on your phone.
Once you’re done editing your video, there are settings to export your video to different resolutions, codecs, frame rates, and sources.
LumaFusion costs $29.99 and can be downloaded from the App Store. Some additional features are available through in-app purchases.
iMovie
If you’re looking for something cheaper and easier to use, there’s always Apple’s iMovie. Apple’s video editor, originally designed for the Mac, is also available for download on iOS devices.
iMovie provides a very intuitive interface that allows anyone to edit videos directly on their iPhone. Users can use the app to crop, trim, adjust speed, and add video effects. You also have the option to add titles, songs, sound effects, and on iPhone 13 and later, you can even edit videos recorded in cinematic mode.
iMovie is free and can be downloaded from the App Store. There are no in-app purchases, but some features are only available on newer iPhone and iPad models.

This app lets you shoot and edit videos with a more professional look using just your iPhone.
