Baku, Azerbaijan, April 30. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit thanked Qatar for hosting the third Arab Economic Cooperation Forum with the participation of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Trends report said.
While speaking at the forum, Aboul-Gheit emphasized the interconnectedness of the Arab region, Central Asia and Azerbaijan, noting the geographical, civilizational and cultural ties they share.
He highlighted the long-standing relationship and diverse exchanges between the regions over the years.
The Secretary-General reiterated the commitment of the Arab League since its founding to promoting Arab unity and strengthening cooperation with various regional groups.
He emphasized that building productive Arab cooperation with Central Asia and Azerbaijan is a logical step forward, given their geographical proximity and common historical heritage. To achieve these goals, the League signed memorandums of understanding with Azerbaijan in 2005, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 2007, and Tajikistan in 2014, with the goal of strengthening political, economic and cultural cooperation between the parties involved.
