Earlier this month, both Amazon and Best Buy dropped the 8TB Seagate Starfield Game Drive Hub to just $150 (down from $240). The deal sold out quickly at both retailers, but the discount is back as part of Best Buy’s July Black Friday sale. The three-day sale coincides with Amazon Prime Day 2024, which begins tomorrow, July 16. In addition to the 8TB Game Drive Hub, a 5TB Starfield-themed portable drive is also on sale for $110 (down from $170).
$150 for 8TB (was $240) | $110 for 5TB (was $170)
The 8TB Starfield Game Drive Hub is quite thick compared to the 5TB drive. As a “hub,” the 8TB version is equipped with USB-A and USB-C ports, while the 5TB portable external drive only has a data cable for the USB-A connection.
Featuring an eye-catching Starfield-inspired design, each drive comes with a one-year warranty and customizable RGB lighting effects.
As mentioned earlier, Amazon sold out of both the 5TB and 8TB drives and, unlike Best Buy, has not restocked them. However, the 2TB portable model is still available for $90.
The Seagate Starfield HDD is officially licensed and can also be used as an external drive for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Keep in mind that PS5 or Xbox Series X games will need to be transferred from this external drive to the console before playing. Xbox One or PS4 games can be played directly from the drive. As such, it may not be the best solution for console gaming unless you play games on a previous-generation console or have slow internet speeds. For some users, deleting and re-downloading games from the console may be faster than transferring games between the console’s SSD and an external drive.
Instead, you can use the 8TB drive to store your biggest PC games and other data.
With games being bigger than ever these days, consider upgrading your storage with one of these affordable external HDDs ahead of all the big games coming out this holiday season. The 8TB model is likely the most versatile thanks to its extra USB port.
