Polls show President Trump and his rival Kamala Harris locked in a tight race in key battleground states that will often decide the election outcome.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced that he will not run for US president again if he loses the November 5 election.
Asked if he would run again four years later if he lost to Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, the 78-year-old former president told the news program Full Measure: “No, I don’t think so. I think so. I think so. I don’t think so at all.”
The real estate tycoon added that he hoped he would be “successful” in the vote.
Polls show Trump and Harris, who won the Democratic nomination after 81-year-old incumbent Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July, locked in a tight race in key battleground states that will determine the winner.
Trump lost to Biden in 2020, but refused to concede and instead promoted conspiracy theories, claiming the election was “stolen.”
On January 6, 2021, ardent Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the results.
The Republican congressman, who served as president from 2016 to 2020, is facing criminal charges for allegedly trying to overturn the election results.
He has denied any wrongdoing and has claimed the charges are politically motivated.
He has repeatedly rejected promises in recent months to unconditionally recognize the November election results.
If Trump were to run for the White House a fourth time in 2028, he would be 82 years old.
