A Texas family is picking up the wreckage after their 7-year-old daughter died and her mother was injured in a car crash after allegedly driving under the influence.
Joel Gonzalez Chasin, 41, who is accused of causing his death by drunk driving, appeared in court Tuesday morning.
He was charged with intoxication manslaughter for the death of Ivory Smith, a second-grade student at Houston Clenk Elementary School.
The devastating accident also left Smith’s mother, Christina Quainoo, seriously injured.

Authorities confirmed to Fox News Digital that the 41-year-old man was intoxicated when he t-boned Christina and her young daughter at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, December 1.
Police said Chasin took photos of the accident scene “instead of helping” and then drove away. Police said the two victims were just minutes away from their home.
The FBI has identified a Texas man as the target of child sexual abuse videos using social media and tattoos.
His bail was set at $150,000.00 in the 232nd District Court.

On GoFundMe, the family remembered 7-year-old Ivory, who was full of joy and light.
“Ivory brought so much light to our lives in the short time she was with us and we will forever cherish the joy and love she so generously gave us,” her family said.
“As we navigate this devastating loss, we face the difficult reality of seeking justice for Ivory,” they said.
Family members said Kwainu went through a lengthy recovery process to overcome the devastating loss of her young daughter.
“She has a long road to recovery and will need everyone’s support,” the GoFundMe said. “Please keep our family and father Kion Smith in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
