Take-Two, the giant publisher of the GTA series, is reportedly planning to shut down Private Division studios Roll7 and Intercept Games after recently announcing plans to lay off around 5% of its staff.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claims to have received access to documents indicating that Roll7 would be shutting down. Bloomberg said Roll7 would be shut down and all employees would be offered layoffs, according to a memo sent to employees. Roll7 is probably best known for releasing Rollerdrome in 2022. The album performed very well critically. But we never knew how well it did in terms of sales.
In the case of Intercept Games, the studio that developed the Kerbal Space Program series, Schreier referred to a memo submitted to the Washington State Department of Employment Security on Monday. The memo states that Take-Two plans to close its Seattle office and lay off 70 employees, roughly the same number of employees employed by Intercept. The name Intercept is not mentioned, but it is the only Take-Two branch in the state.
Gameindustry.biz reached out to Take-Two for comment and received no response, reiterating what it said last month about the company’s restructuring plans but not confirming whether Roll7 and Intercept would be shutting down.
Take-Two is busy shedding money while also laying off people to cut costs. Most recently, Borderlands developer Gearbox was acquired by Embracer Group, shortly before Embracer announced plans to split into three separate companies, sort of like Hydra.
