At first glance, she might seem like an old woman. Lonely, abandoned, and freezing in the snow. On Christmas Day, no one in the crowd recognized her. A young mother was rushing home with her children. A young couple was laughing and talking. The women didn’t notice. No one paid her any attention. If anyone had seen her, they would have noticed that she had no shoes on.
She got on the bus stiffly, barefoot. Everyone looked away. Some people thought she was old or didn’t care about their children. A teacher who traveled on the bus with them blamed the politicians for everything. They said politicians should take money from the rich and give it to the poor. But they said the opposite. Another man thought it was the fault of the old women who didn’t save much money when they were young and now don’t have money to buy shoes.
Each of them thought it was the fault of the system, society, or the woman herself. Finally, a man got up from his seat, approached the woman, and gave her money. He was proud that he was the only one who took the initiative to help the poor woman. A well-dressed woman, who had no money, began to pray for him.
