Bangladesh’s top three failed to give a start in any innings with Litton Das being the only one to score a fifty in that position. Towhid Hridoy’s 153 runs at 128.57 was their best batting performance, but Shakib (111 runs at 106.73 SR) and Mahmudullah (95 runs at 94.05 SR) could not provide him enough support in the middle order.
“The seniors’ wrong attitude affected the team but not off the pitch,” Taskin told reporters at Dhaka airport after the Bangladesh team arrived on Friday morning. “They are great team players. We have been together as a team for 47 days. Off the pitch, everything was fine. It is quite normal for a team to have problems when important players are not in good shape. Hopefully, we can recover from this and play better soon.”
Taskin said the batsmen found better pitches only when they reached West Indies but even then he had never seen such a long batting slump in Bangladesh’s international career.
“When you talk about batting, if you look at the statistics, I think every (team) batting department has struggled this time in the country. The bowlers have had a lot of help. We have got better (batting) wickets in West Indies. .
“I have been playing for Bangladesh for 10 years and I have never seen such a long bad period for the batsmen. I hope it goes away quickly.
“We’ve never performed well in T20s. We’re improving slowly. We can’t just see minus points. We’re already minus points. We’re trying to get a ‘plus’. We expect your frustration. We want good results for you. You have to trust us and we will do our best.”
Taskin was part of Bangladesh’s strong bowling performance. Although he returned from injury, Tanzim Hasan and legspinner Rishad Hossain led the bowling charts. Rishad remains tied for third among the tournament’s top wicket-takers ahead of the final. Taskin said it proved that talented cricketers are coming out of Bangladesh.
“The bowling department has done well over the last few years. We have been consistent and will continue to get better.
“Tanzim and Rishad are among the top wicket-takers of the tournament. That is a positive aspect. We have a future star rising in Bangladesh. It means we have the ability. What happened hurt us and the fans, especially certain “It’s our inability to win games,” he said.
“We could have done a lot better. We were all very disappointed with the last game. We tried to win for 12 overs, but when we realized it wasn’t possible, we tried to win the match. We still won’t win. I couldn’t.
“There are positive aspects to the campaign. Our bowlers have performed very well throughout the tournament. We have qualified for the Super Eight. We have won three matches for the first time in a T20 World Cup. There are positive aspects, but there are also negative aspects. Just like you all. “It’s disappointing we didn’t live up to expectations.”
