“I would say it’s not a good surface to play international matches on. It’s bordering on dangerous,” Flower said on ESPNcricinfo’s Timeout show. “I see the ball bouncing in both directions. Sometimes it skids low, but usually it bounces abnormally high, hitting people’s thumbs, gloves and helmets and making life very difficult for the batsman.
“Indian Quick has been good enough to take advantage of these conditions. We have to pass that on to them,” Flower said. “They kept their game plan very simple. They hit the deck hard at good length and that’s all you had to do. And it proved to be very tricky batting conditions for any team, let alone a small cricketing nation like Ireland playing. A giant of India.”
“We have seen dangerous pitches at international level before, but preparations have gone wrong when the pitch is not properly prepared or in situations beyond our control,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo’s Timeout show. “This seems like something out of their control. They’ve put a lot of effort into getting the right surface in the Big Apple and all that, but I also said a few days ago, I’m sure it’s not for lack of trying to see what they can do. At best it just keeps rolling the drop-in pitch, but I think there’s something inherently wrong with the surface.”
“Maybe it’s a very strong statement that seems to have put the horse before the cart,” Manjrekar said. “You know the excitement of playing cricket in New York. Florida seems to have been pretty good over the last few years. But cricket in New York… But unfortunately, the most important thing is that it doesn’t live up to the hype. The stadium and “The overall situation is unfortunate.”
It’s great trying to sell the game in the US.. I like it.. but it’s unacceptable that players have to play on this sub-standard surface in New York.. they have to work too hard to get to WC and then keep playing. this .. #Environment

This is a great stadium in New York. The idea was to connect American audiences to Test cricket disguised as T20. #Environment #T20World Cup
