Symbotic has acquired OhmniLabs, a Silicon Valley-based developer of medical robotic systems. The companies did not disclose financial details of the deal. Symbotic may pursue medical robotics solutions, but it would certainly also be interested in OhmniLabs’ in-house manufacturing expertise.
Founded in 2015, OhmniLabs builds disinfection and telepresence robots. It claims to have accelerated time to market by using a completely in-house development and manufacturing model. Ohmnilabs has two main products:
- OhmniClean, a fully autonomous UV-C disinfection robot
- Mobile telemedicine robot OhmniCare
OhmniLab also has a modular library with prototyping capabilities that allows customers to design, develop, and deploy robotics applications. The company said it will continue to sell and support Omni products as part of its Symbotic team and product line.
Symbotic provides an end-to-end AI-based robotics and software platform. The Wilmington, Massachusetts-based company applies high-density storage, mobile robotics, and machine learning to help solve complex distribution problems. Received the 2024 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for its modular automation approach for logistics.
Symbotic said the strategic acquisition of OhmniLabs will put it in a better position to expand its automation capabilities for its supply chain customers. We are also interested in delivering enhanced innovation to our healthcare customers.
“Combining Symbotic’s expertise in large-scale automation with OhmniLabs’ groundbreaking mobile robotics, vision and AI solutions will allow us to develop unparalleled automation innovations across a variety of environments,” said Rick Cohen, Chairman and CEO of Symbotic. said. “We were attracted to OhmniLabs because of its impressive talent and industry experience that allows us to expand beyond the walls of our warehouse.”
“OhmniLabs’ mission has been to develop meaningful robotics to deliver real-world solutions, and we have made significant progress with the support of our loyal team members and customers. Becoming part of Symbotic, a true leader in robotics innovation, will drive our vision to deliver cutting-edge solutions that redefine what is possible in healthcare, logistics, and beyond,” said Jared Go, co-founder and CTO of OhmniLabs. .
This is not Symbotic’s first robotics acquisition in 2024. Last August, it acquired “substantially all of the assets” of Veo Robotics for $8.7 million. Symbotic said. robot report We now own FreeMove technology from Veo Robotics, which helps protect industrial robots and promotes human-robot collaboration. FreeMove essentially turns large, high-speed industrial robots into collaborative robots.
