surprised! Octopath Traveler 2 has suddenly arrived on Xbox. If you want, you can also play the game on PC through Game Pass.
This comes on the heels of an unexpected patch to the game that added some additional post-story combat and other quality-of-life updates. Additionally, if you don’t want to check out the game on Xbox or PC via Gamepass, the game is on sale on Steam right now for those looking to save a little cash other ways.

In our review of Octopath Traveler 2, we gave the game four stars, noting that it was a slightly better game than its predecessor. Critic Alex Donaldson wrote: “By taking what worked in the previous game and gently repeating it, Octopath Traveler 2 offers a delightful JRPG throwback, albeit with many of the same shortcomings as its predecessor.”
This surprise release comes just a few days before Summer Game Fest and Xbox’s own showcase, so if you want to bet, your chances of seeing a quick trailer promoting this release are relatively high.
Looking at Square Enix’s financial reports since the game’s release, it’s safe to assume that Octopath Traveler 2 didn’t exactly shatter sales expectations. But it’s still a great game that’s well worth your time and money. Even better if you have a Game Pass subscription. You can play this great RPG at no extra cost.
