Stuart Hogg was sentenced to a community repayment order after pleading guilty to abusing his estranged wife of five years.
The former Scotland captain admitted domestic abuse charges last November and was sentenced at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday morning.
His community payback order also included a one-year supervision order for his estranged wife and a five-year non-harassment order.
Hogg, who currently plays for Montpellier, admitted abusing his wife at Exeter, Hawick and Wisden between 2019 and 2024.
He admitted to yelling and swearing, tracking her movements and essentially sending alarming and distressing messages.
The court previously heard Hogg berated his wife for being ‘no fun’ after a night of drinking with colleagues. At one point he sent her more than 200 text messages ‘in a matter of hours despite her requests to leave her alone’.
The charges also included Hogg tracking his estranged wife’s movements through the Find My Phone app after they separated in 2023.
Hogg made exactly 100 appearances for Scotland between 2012 and 2023, and scored 27 tries for his country, putting him third on the all-time list behind Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe.
He distinguished himself at international level, being named Player of the Tournament in the Six Nations in 2016 and 2017. He has also been selected for three tours with the British and Irish Lions, earning just two appearances in 2021.
Hogg was awarded an MBE for services to rugby union in 2023, before coming out of retirement and signing a two-year contract with Montpellier. He made his competitive debut in September and has since gone on to make eight more appearances, starting every game.
The 32-year-old scored a try in his most recent appearance for Montpellier, a 42-10 win over Bayonne last weekend.
