Veteran loose forward Dave Ewers is relishing the opportunity to face the Sharks for DHL Stormers in Vodacom URC’s first coastal derby in Durban on Saturday.
Speaking about the Kings Park clash, Ewers was clear about the challenges awaiting the Stormers. With over 200 appearances for Exeter Chiefs and a record that includes a Champions Cup title win, the 34-year-old has a strong lead in John Dobson’s charge.
“It would be an amazing experience for me to play,” Yours, who joined the Stormers on a short-term contract in August, told reporters on Wednesday.
“You have to do your best and show them respect as best you can. Anything short of that will be left to your liking.”

With the Sharks boasting a blessed line-up, the Stormers can’t afford to hesitate for a moment and Ewers added: “Their confidence must be sky high, so to go to their home stadium and perform there will be a huge challenge.”
Zimbabwe-born Ewers’ journey to the Stormers was a childhood dream come true and his transition was marked by a remarkable appreciation for tactical precision.
“The attention to detail is really great here,” he said. “Everyone has to know their role. As a new player, I had to play the right role.”
Despite the Stormers’ inconsistent URC campaign, Ewers remains optimistic. “We got a glimpse of what we can do,” he said. “As a group we are trying to achieve more consistent performance.”
