On Thursday, the “The Late Show” host quipped, “I would say that’s pretty terrible language, but it’s kind of an odd choice of words to say that Trump ‘resorted to crime.’”
“That’s like saying that’s what bears do when they have nowhere else to go, pooping in the woods. And the mere ‘resort to crime’ note should not be confused with crime resort, which is another name for Mar-a-Lago.”
A legal brief released Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan provides new evidence in the federal election case against Trump. This came about three months after the Supreme Court’s ruling on privileged immunity.
Colbert later noted that Smith used the filing to point out that Trump “did all of this as a candidate, as a person seeking office, not as an office holder.”
“Yes, he was not there as president, he was there as a young man.” Colbert joked, mimicking the first line of the classic ’70s song.
