Spotify will officially increase premium subscription prices in the US starting in July, following reports of the move in April. The platform is increasing its Individual plan from $11 to $12 per month and its Duo plan from $15 to $17 per month. This is the same amount as last year’s price increases of $1 and $2, respectively. However, the family plan will increase by a whopping $3, from $17 to $20 per month. The only subscribers getting a break are students, who will continue to pay $6 per month.
Spotify announced a price increase less than a year ago last July. Before that, Spotify hadn’t increased its fees since it launched 15 years ago. It may have been too optimistic to expect the next increase to take that long, especially as Spotify continues to focus on audiobooks.
Premium subscribers will receive an email from Spotify next month detailing the price increase and providing a link to cancel their plan if they wish. Users currently on a Spotify trial period will pay $11 for a month after it ends, then the rate will increase to $12 per month.
