Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have been ramping up their marketing ahead of the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. September 9, 2024. The developers have been very open about the PC and console release, sharing technical details in several FAQs. Now, Saber Interactive has confirmed that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released on PC without third-party DRM protection.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 doesn’t have Denuvo
Saber Interactive has confirmed in their FAQ about Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Denuvo is listed as one of the services, but it doesn’t have DRM protection.
The FAQ asks the following question:
Q: Does the game use DRM software (ie. Denuvo…)?
A: No.
This means that the game will have the usual Steam DRM protection without any form of interference. Denuvo has been the subject of much controversy since it became the mainstream tool used by many developers and publishers to protect their titles from privacy. In the past, it has caused performance degradation in several titles, but this is less common now.
A more concerning aspect is the daily activation limit, which could be problematic for outlets and creators who want to test their titles on multiple devices. This isn’t usually an issue for the average consumer, but it’s still annoying to have to deal with.
Fortunately, Space Marine 2 doesn’t have any of that, so at least on the PC version, there are no Denuvo-related issues. Players can still enjoy the campaign offline, but the game uses Easy Anti Cheat for all online features and multiplayer modes.
In addition, PC players can expect the following features with the launch of Space Marine 2:
- Co-op play with cross-play support (excluding PvP mode)
- Eternal War (PvP mode) dedicated server
- Cross save support
- Text and voice chat
- DLSS2/FSR2 – DLSS3/FSR3 are planned post-launch.
It’s definitely a demanding title on PC, especially CPU-wise, but hopefully there will be enough options for players to tweak their systems and get the most out of it.
