Indiana quarterback Curtis Luke is not expected to play next week against Washington after suffering a thumb injury Saturday against Nebraska, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday.
Rourke is expected to return to the Hoosiers this season, but the timetable is not yet clear, sources said.
He sat out the second half of the No. 16 Hoosiers’ 56-7 win over Nebraska after injuring his right thumb while being hit by a pass attempt in the second quarter. He stayed in the game and threw for 189 yards with one touchdown and one interception on 17-of-21 passing and led the Hoosiers to a 28-7 halftime lead, but was on the sideline in street clothes in the second half. Curt Cignetti took precautions.
Backup Tayven Jackson, who started five games for Indiana in 2023, replaced Luke in the second half and led a four-touchdown drive, throwing for 91 yards and two touchdowns on 7-of-8 passing.
Rourke, a sixth-year senior from Ohio, emerged as a Heisman Trophy contender as he led the Hoosiers to their first 7-0 start since 1967.
