ah, Flappy Bird. It’s been a while since I last thought about the cultural phenomenon that went from a game that briefly stumped us all a decade ago. At least that was the case until this morning. I happened to come across a post on Reddit announcing the following: flappy bird I gave Playdate a thumbs up and sideloaded it onto my device without a moment’s hesitation. Now I am once again completely fascinated by this crazy little game. And using the crank to control that silly-looking bird is much more difficult this time around. Flappy Bird by Chibisuke is free and can be downloaded from itch.io as Playdate. You’re welcome… or sorry.
Flappy Bird Just like the OG game, but in grayscale. You can play using the top button on the D-pad, the ‘A’ button, or a crank to guide the bird between pipes, but I chose the latter for the extra challenge it adds. It also feels like a perfect use of the crank, and I like to make the most of the Playdate’s funky design whenever possible. This is definitely one way to get your heart rate up on a Sunday afternoon. Just don’t ask me about my high score. I am… I don’t want to talk about it.
