“For years, the leagues and players’ unions have repeatedly urged FIFA to develop clear, transparent and fair procedures for scheduling international matches, but FIFA has repeatedly refused,” the groups said in a statement Tuesday.
They said FIFA was prioritising its own commercial interests while harming the “economic interests of national leagues and the welfare of their players”.
The complaint is the latest in a string of football issues filed against the EU, including a European Super League dispute, a fight over big-money agents and a spat over Gulf subsidies to football.
FIFA did not immediately respond to POLITICO’s request for comment.
