BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 30. The BW Singapore floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) has arrived in Italy and is expected to begin operations in Ravenna in spring 2025, Trend reports.
Originating from Dubai, the unit is currently undergoing technical finishing work, including mechanical, electrical and equipment adjustments, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo. The device will then undergo gassing and cooling operations in Cartagena, Spain, before heading to Ravenna for final connection and validation activities.
Snam CEO Stefano Venier emphasized that the arrival of the FSRU is a key step in Italy’s strategy to diversify energy supplies and strengthen energy security following the Russia-Ukraine conflict. When BW Singapore is completed, Italy’s total regasification capacity will reach 28 billion cubic meters, equivalent to the pipeline imported from pre-war Russia.
Currently, LNG accounts for about 25% of Italian gas consumption. Snam also holds significant stakes in other major LNG terminals across the country, including Panigaglia, Adriatic LNG, OLT Toscana and Piombino.
