Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus seem to be doing very well on their own, according to a new report.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus launched on PlayStation Plus Premium a while ago as part of a wave of PS2 titles using the new emulator. Upon review, we found that not only is the emulation solid, but Sly Cooper kicks raccoon ass in 2024.
It seems like other people have the same thoughts. According to the folks at True Trophies, they analyzed 3.1 million active PSN accounts in partnership with GameInsights and found that Sly Cooper is now the #1 most played PlayStation Premium game, beating out previous record holder The Legend of Dragoon.
Based on the data provided, True Trophies believes that Sly Cooper and his gang of criminal masterminds attracted 2.5% more players than The Legend of Dragoon in its launch week. It may not be a huge margin, but a win is a win.
Tomb Raider Legend, which was released alongside Sly Cooper, also performed well, coming in third behind The Legend of Dragoon, but Sly said it had 39.66% more players than it managed. But Tomb Raider Legend is much more expensive than Sly Cooper.
Another point of comparison comes from ratings. 7.2k players joined in to leave a rating for Sly Cooper’s first game, giving him all 5 stars in the process. Tomb Raider Legend only has a rating of 1.4k.
To provide some context, True Trophies pointed out that there is a huge gap between successful premium games and PS Plus games overall. According to the data, of all games added to PS Plus and Premium so far in 2024, Sly Cooper ranks eighth behind Animal Well and ahead of Dredge. Dave the Diver took first place and Red Red Redemption 2 came in second.
That means Sony alone probably won’t be enough to bring Sly Cooper back for a new game. However, its relative success means we’ll likely see Sly 2 and Sly 3 added to the service in the coming months. I can’t wait.
