NHL superstar Sidney Crosby has a long list of accolades and accomplishments, and now he can add another. He is the Pittsburgh Penguins’ all-time assist leader.
Penguins captain and Cole Harbor, N.S. native surpassed Mario Lemieux’s mark during the team’s 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Sunday.
Introducing teammate Michael Bunting, Sidney recorded his 1,034th career assist and drew a loud standing ovation in Pittsburgh Stadium.
Crosby currently ranks 12th in assists in NHL history. Only three players have more assists on a single team: Ray Bourque, Wayne Gretzky, and Steve Yzerman.
Crosby was presented with the puck in the locker room after the game, where he told reporters, “As the years go by, you get to appreciate those types of things a little more.”

“It’s great to have all the guys who played before me be part of that company,” he said.
The team provided a statement from Lemieux sending his congratulations.
“He’s an amazing player and we’re so lucky to have him in Pittsburgh. I expect even more great things to happen from him,” Lemieux said.
Crosby, 37, has played 1,310 regular season games. Lemieux played 915.
Crosby said he’ll give it to his father about what he plans to do with his record-breaking puck.
“Yeah, he’ll keep holding on.” he said
