After a disappointing defeat in yesterday’s match, Team India bounced back to beat Zimbabwe by 100 runs. India captain Shubman Gill shares his thoughts on how the young team defeated Zimbabwe on their home soil.
Zimbabwe’s tour of India began on July 6 with a T20 match between the two teams at the Harare Sports Club. In the first match, India won the match by a margin of 13 runs.
In the second match, India won the title and went to bat first. The team posted a whopping 234/2 in 20 overs, with youngster Abhishek Sharma scoring a stunning century. Zimbabwe lost the match by a wide margin, finishing with a total of 134 runs.
“Yesterday was about more,” says Shubman Gill.
India captain Shubman Gill shares his feelings on India’s 100-run win over Zimbabwe in the second T20I of the Zimbabwe tour. Addressing the audience at the post-match award ceremony, the 24-year-old captain expressed his joy over the victory.
Shubman also acknowledged the efforts of Indian batsmen Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 100 and 77 respectively.
“I am very happy and glad to be back on a winning streak. The way Abhishek and Rutu batted, especially in the powerplay, it was not easy with the ball moving, but Abhi and Rutu built the innings brilliantly,” Shubman said.
Gill also added that the first match was a pressure match for several players who were playing their first match for the world champion team.
“Yesterday was more about not being able to handle the pressure. It’s a young team and many of them are playing on the international stage for the first time. It was actually good to be under pressure in the first game and we knew what to expect going into this game,” he added.
Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Match after a superb batting performance in the first innings. Shubman is hopeful and excited about the upcoming match.
“We have three games left and we are looking forward to them. It is always better to have more options than no options.”
Abhishek Sharma’s first century in blue
Today’s match brought many upsets for the Indian team. From Ruturaj Gaikwad who scored 77 off 47 balls to Rinku Singh who scored 48* off 22 balls. But it was Abhishek Sharma who stole the spotlight as he scored the first 100 for the men in blue.
Abhishek Sharma is undoubtedly a man to watch. The young batsman made his debut for the Indian team yesterday and today he scored his maiden century for the team. Sharma’s performance was remarkable today at least, with runs of 2,4,6,4,6,4 in each ball in the 10th over while bowled by Dion Myers.
Abhishek scored his century in just 47 balls and his strike rate was a whopping 212.77. These numbers are daunting for bowlers, at least since he is facing Sharma in the series.
Abhishek Sharma lost his wicket after scoring an impressive century off a ball from Wellington Massakadza. Dion Myers got his revenge by taking a catch that sent Sharma back to the pavilion.
