“I am at a point where when I look back, I see only memories and a new life when I look forward. It has always been my dream to play for India and I have achieved that dream. I thank many people for that. First of all, my family, my childhood coach and the team I have played for for so many years. I have gained a new family, honour and love. But they say you have to turn the page to move forward,” Dhawan said in a post on ‘X’.
“I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. As I bid farewell to my cricketing journey, I feel a sense of peace in my heart. I have played a lot for my country. I just say to myself, don’t be upset that you will never play for your country again, but be happy that you had the opportunity to do so,” he concluded.
Dhawan has represented India in 34 Test matches, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is.
His best results came in the 50-over format, where he amassed 6793 runs at an average of 44.11. He scored 2315 Test runs at an average of 40.61.
