Bangladesh has left the experienced duo of Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan from the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Bangladesh have released a statement to announce their 15-man squad for the highly anticipated tournament next month. The players’ high-profile axing comes on the heels of Litton’s ruthless form. In ODIs, the wicketkeeper-batsman has struggled to score 50 in the last 13 innings. Over the past seven innings, he has been ejected six times with single-digit runs scored.
Shakib’s exclusion comes amid his suspension from bowling in ICC events. The 37-year-old was suspended from bowling in top cricket due to the illegal bowling action. He recently failed a second test for an independent assessment of his behavior.
Apart from Litton and Shakib, other notable exclusions from the Bangladesh squad are all-rounder Afif Hossain and the pace duo of Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud.
Experienced middle-order batsman Mahmudullah retained his place in the squad. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain will be the frontline spinners for Bangladesh.
Najmul Hossain Shanto returned to the ODI fold as the side’s skipper after missing the West Indies tour last November due to a hamstring injury. Other notable returnees from the Bangladesh team include Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy and Mustafizur Rahman.
The most notable player included in the Bangladesh squad is Parvez Hossai Emon, who received his first ODI call-up. The 22-year-old wicketkeeper has seven T20I outings, scoring 88 runs at an average of 12.57.
Young prodigy and pacegun Nahid Rana, who made his debut in the recent series against West Indies, has been included in the squad. In three ODI appearances, Bangladesh Tearaway has four scalps at an average of 31.50 and an economy rate of 4.72.
Bangladesh will face the finalists of the last edition at the campaign opening ceremony in Dubai on February 20.
