In 2023, the Seattle Seahawks were 9-8 and in third place in the NFC West. After 14 seasons, the team officially decided to move on from Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll. Instead, the Seahawks brought in former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike McDonald.
Seattle plays in a tough division and has the 15th-toughest schedule in the NFL this season, according to Sharp Football Analysis. The Seahawks’ starting QB this season is 32-year-old Geno Smith. On Tuesday, Smith suffered an injury during practice and did not participate in Wednesday’s walk-through. The veteran QB has had some tests and Smith is not expected to miss a single game. He has struggled with knee and hip injuries.
The Seahawks can’t afford to have Geno Smith miss a single game in 2024.

Geno Smith joined the Seattle Seahawks in 2020 and spent two seasons behind QB Russell Wilson. He earned the full-time starter job in 2022 and had the best pro season of his career. Smith threw for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. That earned Smith the 2022 AP Comeback Player of the Year Award. It was his first season as a full-time starter since 2014 with the New York Jets. The veteran QB also earned his first Pro Bowl selection of his career.
Last season, Smith missed two games for the Seahawks, and his numbers were down from 2023. The team signed Smith to a three-year, $75 million contract that will keep him with the team through 2025. He will be a free agent after the 2026 season. The former first-round pick in 2024 has been dealing with multiple injuries during training camp. None are serious for Smith, but the Seahawks will need to monitor him throughout camp. Reporters said Smith limped noticeably Wednesday when he did not practice. There is more than a month left until the 2024 regular season begins. There is plenty of time for Smith to work through these minor injuries and be in top shape for Week 1.
