After one of the most historic seasons in golf in 2024, 2025 will not be off to an ideal start for Scottie Scheffler.
The current PGA Player of the Year and No. 1 golfer in the world will miss next week’s Sentry Tournament after undergoing hand surgery.
Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, said in a statement released Friday that Scheffler “suffered a puncture wound from broken glass” on his right hand while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.

“He needed surgery because he had a small piece of glass left in his palm. He was told he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks,” Smith said. Scheffler has officially resigned from The Sentry.
Scheffler’s next scheduled tournament is the American Express, which begins January 16th. This year’s Sentry marked the first of eight events.
Scheffler’s injury comes months after he completed one of the greatest seasons in PGA history. He started the season with four top-10 finishes in his first five tournaments. Then he used another piece of equipment. He won four of the next five events and finished tied for second. He has participated in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players, RBC Heritage and Masters.

But his season took a major turn when he was arrested heading into the second round in May. PGA Championship at Valhalla. After spending time in prison, he later accidentally shot himself with a .66. He finished tied for 8th in the tournament.
Scheffler won Olympic gold in Paris after winning the Memorial and Travelers in June. Including the Olympics, Schaeffler has recorded eight wins, two runner-up finishes, 17 top-10 finishes and zero cuts in 20 events. His seven wins in PGA competitions are the most since 2007.

The $25 million in prize money for winning the FedEx Cup brings Scheffler’s 2024 season earnings to over $54 million, by far the most he has won in a single season.
