Glasgow Warriors and Scotland center Sione Tuipulotu has said it would be “unrealistic” to play for the British and Irish Lions in his native Australia next summer.
Melbourne-born Tuipulotu, 27, made his Scotland debut soon after signing for Glasgow Warriors in 2021, qualifying through his grandmother from Greenock.
He is now the favorite to make Andy Farrell’s Lions squad and is the odds-on favorite to make the Test squad. While Tuipulotu has his feet on the ground, he admits a Lions place is a big target for him.
“When I arrived (in Glasgow), I couldn’t even imagine that four years later, no matter what, I would be on this tour,” Tuipulotu said.
“But somehow things worked out. Obviously for me, this is one of my goals. I want to be a Lion.
“That’s what I want to do, but the way to get there is literally just focusing on one game at a time and knowing what we did last year, we’ll be confident when the big games come up and we’ll play well in the big games. If you want.
“I think that would be a good opportunity for me to get selected, but my next focus in terms of international rugby is still the autumn.”
