Due to the crisis As President Biden’s presidential bid enters its second week following a dismal debate performance, leading Democrats are publicly expressing deep concerns about Biden remaining in the race with Donald Trump.
“Given Joe Biden’s incredible record and Donald Trump’s terrible record, he should crush Donald Trump,” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said during the appearance. Meet the Press On sunday.
“Joe Biden is competing with criminals. He can’t even come close,” he added.
Schiff’s urging for the president to seek advice from advisers outside his immediate circle seemed to suggest he was concerned about multiple reports that Biden’s inner circle and family, including his son Hunter Biden, were exerting undue, potentially damaging influence in the president’s decision not to run.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) also expressed frustration on Sunday, saying he was disappointed with Biden’s interview with George Stephanopoulos that aired Friday night.
“I don’t know if the interview was sufficient to answer that question,” Murphy told CNN. State of the Federation“This week is going to be absolutely critical. I think the president needs to do more.”
Like Schiff, Murphy did not call on Biden to step down. But a couple of comments from prominent Democrats and close allies of the president have added significant weight to the growing list of Democrats who have publicly expressed serious doubts about Biden’s chances of beating Trump in November. While there have been reports that the president has privately considered stepping down, Biden has remained defiant in public — some might say delusional.
