San Diego Wave FC Forward Maria Sanchez vs. Houston Dash
(San Diego Waves FC)
San Diego – San Diego Wave FC (5-12-7, 22 points) lost 2-0 to the Houston Dash (5-14-5, 20 points) held at Snapdragon Stadium on the 2nd night.
Houston opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal awarded to the Dash after a video assistant review. The referee ruled that San Diego defender Naomi Girma had fouled Houston’s Yuki Nagasato in the box and pointed to the spot. Bárbara Olivieri converted a penalty kick in the 30th minute.
The Dash doubled their lead in the 72nd minute after Olivieri misplayed in midfield. The midfielder went straight into attack and scored the final goal of the game, finding Ramona Bachmann wide open at the back post.
Next up: San Diego returns to Concacaf group stage play when they host Club América on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 PM PT. Tickets start at $7 and can be purchased here. The Wave departs for a regular season matchup against KC Current on Saturday, October 19th at 10 a.m. PT.
