Samuel Ersson made 23 saves en route to the Philadelphia Flyers’ first shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the host Boston Bruins on Tuesday.
Tyson Foerster scored the game-winning goal in the second period and Joel Farabee added an empty-net goal in the final minute.
The Flyers have won two of their last three games after losing six straight (0-5-1).
Emil Andrae had the key assist on Foerster’s opening goal of the game. The 22-year-old Swedish defenseman scored his first career point in his sixth NHL game, his second contest this season.
Junas Korpisalo made 17 saves for the Bruins, who have won just once of their last four (0-3-1). The range includes a pair of blocking losses.
Before Tuesday, the Bruins had scored at least one point in 20 straight home games against the Flyers since March 17, 2012.
The Bruins held a 24-19 shooting advantage but finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play. There were only three shots in the third period.
Foerster broke the scoreless deadlock with 5:32 remaining. Andrae slipped a pass from the half-wall through traffic and right to Foerster between the circles, where a straight wrist shot beat Korpisalo.
The Bruins had their best chance to score before the game reached the six-minute mark, but failed to convert at 1:37 on a 5-on-3.
On the other hand, Korpisalo made a great block on Garnet Hathaway, who made a 2-on-1 break with Scott Lawton outside the penalty box.
One of Ersson’s best saves of the opening game came with 5 minutes, 21 seconds left. At this point, a crisp passing sequence gave Elias Lindholm a point-blank chance at the left post.
Ersson did not see the goal on either of Boston’s final two power plays, including attempts in the second and third frames.
In the opening minutes of the third, 19-year-old Flyers star Matvei Michkov attempted a lacrosse-style goal but was thwarted by Korpisalo, and Ersson hit a loose puck thrown in from behind the goal line by Brad Marchand in the nick of time. -Hand order.
