Out-of-pop Ireland fly-half Ross Byrne is being left waiting for top-14 big spenders Montpeiller to make a decision on the contract offer they made to him two months ago.
Byrne, 29, has slipped down the pecking order against Leo Cullen’s runaway United Rugby Championship leaders and has come off the bench five times in the seven games he has played since the start of the campaign.
He is currently third choice behind Ciaran Frawley and future Ireland star Sam Prendergast, 21, and is also facing pressure for his place in the team from his younger brother Harry.
Byrne, from Dublin, is also on Leicester Tigers’ wanted list. He may be forced to replace two-time Rugby World Cup winner Handre Pollard on a lucrative contract at the end of the season.
