The superstar forward has said he is ‘very happy’ with the Saudi Arabian football club he joined for a then world record fee in 2023, in an interview with a Portuguese channel.
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he plans to end his career at his current club Al Nassr, but it is likely that he will do so in two or three years.
The Portuguese superstar has dashed all hopes of a return to first club Sporting Lisbon by confirming he plans to stay in Saudi Arabia until he retires.
“I don’t know if I will retire in two or three years, but I think I will retire at Al Nassr,” Ronaldo told Portuguese channel NOW.
“I am very happy at this club and I feel good in this country. I am happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue playing there.”
Ronaldo moved to the Saudi Professional League in December 2022 after his embarrassing exit from Manchester United. He scored 50 goals in 48 appearances for the club.
Despite the huge investment in transfers, Al Nassr is yet to win any trophies. Al Nassr finished second behind Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League last season and also lost to their Riyadh rivals in the 2023-2024 King’s Cup.
Media outlets estimated his contract to be worth over $220 million.
The 39-year-old started every one of Portugal’s games at Euro 2024, as they reached the quarter-finals before losing to France on penalties.
For now, he wants to continue playing for his country and hopes to feature in the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Poland.
“When I leave the national team, I won’t tell anyone in advance. It will be a very spontaneous decision on my part, but at the same time a very well-thought-out decision,” the former Real Madrid striker added.
“What I want now is to help the national team in the upcoming matches.
“We have to go to the Nations League in the future and I really want to play.”
Ronaldo, who has scored 898 goals in his career, has said he is not interested in a managerial position ahead of his retirement.
“As of now, I have no intention of becoming a manager of the first team or another team,” he said.
“It never crossed my mind. I never thought about it. I don’t see my future going that way. I see myself doing other things besides football, but God knows what the future holds.”
