Claire spoke to Sir Ara Darzi of Imperial College London about the past, present and future of robotic surgery.
Ara Darzi is co-director of the Institute for Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London and holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair in Surgery. In 2002 he was knighted for services to medicine and surgery, and in 2007 he was introduced as Lord Darzi of Denham to the House of Lords as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health. Professor Darzi leads a large, multidisciplinary academic and policy research team focused on convergent science across engineering, physics, and data science, and particularly in the fields of robotics, sensing, imaging, digital, and AI technologies. He is Chair of the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine and the Royal Society, and an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
