Passion, know-how, creativity – 136 teams of children and young people aged 8 to 19 showcased their impressive technical talents at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2024 in Passau. The four category winners will compete at the international WRO finals in Izmir, Turkey in November. fischertechnik supported the young talent competition organized by the TECHNIK BEGEISTERT association as a global partner.
A total of 136 teams made it through 50 regional preliminaries to the finals in Dreiländerhalle. There were 103 teams in the “Robo Mission” category, 16 in the “Future Innovator” category and 10 in the “Future Engineer” category. There were also seven “Starter Teams”. The four categories, each with different levels of difficulty, involved successfully implementing robots and robotic vehicles through the course or developing and presenting a robotics project. The current theme of the 2024 competition is “Earth Allies”. The students are asked to explore how robots can help us live in harmony with nature. “It was fantastic to see how children and young people are doing their best and how fischertechnik can be part of individual robotics success stories,” says Ann-Christin Walker, Business Development Management Education Manager at fischertechnik. Passionate inventors. 14 teams have made it to the international finals in Izmir in November.
At the WRO Germany final, fischertechnik presented a wide and versatile range of robotics products for ages from kindergarten to university. The Northern Black Forest company developed a STEM coding competition kit especially for the WRO “Future Engineer” category. The set contains everything needed to build and program an autonomous robot car and successfully master the course. The concept of learning renewable energies in a fun and practical way for children in primary and secondary schools also attracted great interest from the visitors.
The TECHNIK BEGEISTERT association was founded in 2011 by young people. The goal of the more than 80 members is to pass on the passion for robotics competitions to other children and young people. With the World Robot Olympiad, the association organizes one of the largest robotics competitions in Germany. It also supports the establishment of robotics groups in schools, runs training courses and supports other robotics activities.
