Republican strategist Karl Rove criticized former President Trump’s campaign messaging on Monday.
“Well, it’s smart to go to a key state,” Rove told Fox News’ Martha McCallum on “The Story” about Trump’s campaign event in York, Pennsylvania, on Monday, in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “There needs to be a much more disciplined message.”
Rove joins other Republicans in arguing that Trump should focus on policy rather than attacking Vice President Harris, whose approval ratings are rising in the polls.
“I’ve been through this twice,” Rob said. “And you want to go to these places and have a simple message for the media to cover. Instead, he gives them a giant smorgasbord. Some of it is written in his speech draft, some of it is just stopgap, and they can pick and choose.”
“And who do you think the mainstream media in this country is going to choose what’s most productive to get him votes?” Rove added. “They’re going to choose, as he just said, to give a distraction to Kamala Harris or President Biden.”
Last week, former Trump adviser Kellyanne Coney said on Fox Business that Trump’s “winning formula” is “less insults.”
“President Trump’s winning formula seems very obvious,” Conway said. “Less insults, more insight, more contrasts on policy.”
Harris has steadily risen in the polls since Biden dropped out of the race late last month, leading by 3 percentage points in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s national polling average. The vice president has 49.4% approval, while the former president has 46.4%.
Congress has reached out to the Trump campaign.
