Famed singer-songwriter Lizzo joined Vice President Harris in Detroit at a rally Saturday, emphasizing her love for the city and denouncing former President Trump’s negative comments about the city.
Lizzo, a Detroit native, told the crowd: “I am so proud to be from this city.
“They say if Kamala Harris wins, the whole country will be like Detroit, right? Proud like Detroit. “It’s as resilient as Detroit,” she continued. “We’re talking about Detroit, the same city that revolutionized the automobile industry and the music industry, so please respect Detroit’s name. Okay!”
The comments come after Trump likened the city to a “developing country” during a campaign event held at the Detroit Economic Club on Thursday.
“If she becomes president, our whole country will be like Detroit. Trump said this about Harris on October 10:
The Harris-Waltz team then counterattacked with a barrage of advertising and additional stops downtown to woo voters who might have been offended by the Republican candidate’s comments.
At Saturday’s rally in the Motor City, Harris took the stage wearing a “Detroit vs. Everyone” T-shirt underneath his usual blazer.
“Who is responsible for producing the album?” Harris said at the rally: “We’re going to break some records here in Detroit today.”
The Democratic candidate encouraged voters to vote in his favor ahead of November 5. Early voting in Michigan begins October 26.
Trump leads Harris by 0.4 points in the Great Lakes state, according to Decision Desk HQ, The Hill’s internal polling site.
After Harris’ star-studded Michigan rally, she flew to Georgia to campaign with Atlanta singer Usher.
