Dubai: Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who has scored a massive century in Test matches, re-entered the ICC rankings at an impressive sixth position on Wednesday, but there were major shake-ups in the rankings for India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Pant (731), who scored a stunning century in the first match of the two-Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai, is at number six while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (751) is at number five after scoring a fifty in the first innings of a Test match.
India captain Rohit Sharma was in the top 10 but dropped five places after two disappointing scores. He has a rating of 716.
Kohli also dropped five places, dropping out of the top 10 and currently sits at 12th place.
There was a shake-up in the top 10 of the bowling rankings after the Sri Lanka-New Zealand Test in Galle, with Prabhas Jayasuriya climbing five places to No. 8 with nine wickets, cementing his reputation as one of the best spinners in the game.
Jayasuriya (743) is the highest-ranked athlete representing Sri Lanka across all three events, beating Ashita Fernando who dropped two places to 13th (700).
Kamindu Mendis, who rose three places to 16th in the batting rankings, and Dhananjaya de Silva, who rose five places to 18th in the all-rounder rankings (168), were also key contributors to the victory.
In the ODI rankings, young stars Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan and Travis Head of Australia have broken into the top 10 of the batting rankings thanks to quick hundreds in the UAE and England.
Gurbaz continued his dream career in ODI cricket, scoring his seventh century and climbing 10 places to eighth (692) before his 23rd birthday, becoming the first Afghanistan batsman to enter the top 10 of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.
The previous best finisher for an Asian country in the ODI batting rankings was Ibrahim Zadran, who finished 12th.
Gurbaz moved up seven places to ninth (684) ahead of Head thanks to his 154 runs (129) in the first of five ODIs against rivals England.
Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan headlines the rankings alongside Rahmanullah, climbing eight places to third (668) in the ODI bowling rankings and taking seven wickets in the two wins over South Africa in the UAE.
The contributions of these two players helped Afghanistan win the ODI series against the Proteas, their first-ever win against a top-five opponent.
