Riot Games announced today that it will launch an “in-game fundraiser” in VALORANT and League of Legends to support relief from wildfires affecting the city of Los Angeles. Riot said the fundraiser will begin next week and is part of a number of initiatives the company has undertaken to support the cities where it is based.
Wildfires in Los Angeles earlier this month destroyed hundreds of homes and caused billions of dollars in damage.
An opportunity for VALORANT and League players to do good things
Starting January 22nd, VALORANT’s latest EX.O skin collection will be converted into a donation bundle. Proceeds from bundled items will go directly to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. Every year since the game’s launch, Valorant has introduced donation bundles containing skins from different collections voted on by fans. In previous iterations, 50% of skin proceeds and 100% of accessory proceeds were sent to the fund. The EX.O bundle will be released in stores on January 30th.
Additionally, League of Legends will unlock Firefighter Tristana’s Vault from January 23rd to February 5th. Firefighter Tristana was originally released in 2010 and is one of those rare skins that League fans have been dying to get their hands on.
As the VALORANT Champions Tour Americas broadcast began today, VALORANT Head of Esports Leo Faria spoke about the wildfires. He implored fans to donate to the California Fire Foundation and International Medical Corps.
After wildfires began sweeping the city, Riot provided temporary housing and wages to unemployed workers, donated meals, and even provided backup generators to local fire departments that lost power. “We are doing this for the long term and will support both Southern California’s immediate response and multi-year recovery efforts,” the developer said.
