Want to jump back in with 2XKO? Missed it the first time and wanted to give it a fresh and enthusiastic try? I have good news! According to an official post from 2XKO game director Shaun Rivera: The team aims to set up a second Alpha Lab test in spring 2025..
In the post, which you can read in full on Twitter now, Rivera revealed that this playtest will be available in more regions than the first one, which will be good news for those who weren’t able to participate the first time around. There are also some major changes coming: This includes gameplay changes, including improved controls and reduced downtime, as well as Jinx, who received his own gameplay trailer for the game today.

This is definitely good news. Although 2XKO’s Alpha Lab test was a huge success (as evidenced by Rivera’s post), players left the experience leaving behind some feedback about the game. And since the game wasn’t included in the 2024 World Championship, we didn’t have a chance to see if that feedback was implemented. The first real opportunity to find out will likely come early next year. It’s also worth noting that if you’ve accessed the first Alpha Lab test, you don’t need to register for the next one.
With the game set for a vague 2025 release date, this anticipated Alpha Lab test makes us wonder just how big the entire 2XKO package will be at launch. Including Jinx, the total is 7. At the rate they are being released and added to the game, how many characters will we reach in total once 2XKO reaches 1.0?
My bet is 10. They want an even number of characters for their 2v2 fighters, and at the rate they’re coming out, the 10th reveal will probably start in the second half of next year. Or maybe I’m completely wrong and the 2XKO team passed it up. That’s the biggest advantage of this bet. Even if I lose, I’m smiling. More characters will be voiced.
