Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said he would like to have a presidential debate on social platform
“X is where the debate should be,” Kennedy said in a post to X on Wednesday. “A new public square with 100 times the audience of CNN. @realDonaldTrump, I know you have the courage to do that. Would you like to call @POTUS or should I?”
Kennedy first asked X owner Elon Musk if the billionaire could host a debate on the social platform. Musk agreed and Kennedy called for the debate to be held on social media platforms.
President Biden and former President Trump have agreed to two general election debates, the first of which is scheduled for June 27 on CNN. The second debate will be on ABC News on September 10th.
Kennedy is currently excluded from both, but that could change if he meets the debate stage criteria. The rules require him to get 15% in four national polls while also being on the ballot in enough states. He collected 270 electoral votes.
He said the lack of inclusion was detrimental to a democracy that welcomes the exchange of political ideas and cherishes freedom of speech.
“They are trying to exclude me from the debate because they are afraid I will win. “Excluding strong candidates from the debate stage undermines democracy.” Kennedy spoke in mid-May, shortly after the debate’s first announcement.
Trump, who has stepped up his attacks on Kennedy in recent weeks, said he had no problem allowing Kennedy to take the debate stage if the independent candidate met the criteria.
