Renault will stop producing Formula One engines from 2026, ending nearly half a century of use in F1, French manufacturer Team Alpine announced on Monday.
The move was floated by Alpine’s former team boss Bruno Famin last July.
The team is expected to use Mercedes powerplants from 2026.
Renault entered F1 in 1977, introducing turbo engines to the flagship sport of motor racing and winning five drivers’ titles and six constructors’ crowns.
The company’s F1 engine factory in Viry-Chatillon near Paris will be transformed into an engineering center for future Renault and Alpine cars.
“Biri’s Formula 1 activities, excluding new engine development, will continue until the end of the 2025 season,” Alpine said in a statement.
